Facebook video, the basics

Facebook video is a great place for realtors to brand and market themselves to potential clients. To find videos on Facebook, you go to the “video” tab, located on the bottom menu between your timeline and marketplace tabs, or under the explore section.

The videos are broken up into 3 different types:

Notifications- these are videos posted by pages and people you follow.

Top Live- current live videos with the most viewers.

Suggested Videos- videos you might like based on who you follow.

The Importance of Facebook Video Marketing


Not convinced that Facebook marketing is for you? Here are some stats that will likely change your mind:


  • Over 4 billion videos are viewed daily on Facebook.

  • Large companies like Nissan, CNN, and General Motors use Facebook video frequently to increase exposure and brand recognition.

  • According to HubSpot, by the end of this year, online videos will account for 74% of all web traffic.

  • Video marketing is only going to increase in popularity as people crave easy-to-digest information at their fingertips.

How to get started:

Inform your fans-

Perhaps most important, post about going live before you do so, so people know when to tune in.

Get set up-

Before you can go live on your cellphone, download the Facebook Page Manager App. If you’re doing it from your computer, click the button on your update status box that shows a figure with two rings around it. Give Facebook access to your camera and mic, then edit your privacy settings (use the Public setting to get the most potential exposure).

Prepare to go live-

Before going live, create an interesting description that conveys the value of your live video (consider sharing some of your best tips for home sellers, buyers, etc.). Also make sure to have a non-distracting, bright background when possible, and minimize background noise. Then go live! Encourage viewers to interact with you to increase your ranking. You will be able to see the comments people are leaving below your video, like in the example below. Read these comments and try to answer as many as possible that are relevant.



Videos can last for up to 90 minutes. Once you’re done, click the finish button to end the broadcast. If you’re using your mobile phone, you can save the video to your camera roll for later review.

Make sure to add a thumbnail to the video once you’re finished. You can edit the thumbnail to add a call to action for viewers who are watching later.
